Why do this course?
This course offers healthcare professionals the opportunity to develop specialised skills in fetal cardiac anatomy, enabling them to accurately identify complex congenital heart defects such as Tetralogy of Fallot and Transposition of the Great Arteries. With a focus on enhancing diagnostic precision, participants will improve their ability to make informed prenatal and postnatal treatment decisions, leading to better patient outcomes. The course also covers comprehensive management strategies, preparing professionals to create effective care plans, from prenatal counseling to postnatal care. Ultimately, this expertise can advance careers in fetal echocardiography and pediatric cardiology.
Course description
This course on fetal cardiac diagnosis using ultrasound focuses on identifying and managing a range of complex congenital heart defects, specifically those affecting the cardiac outflow tracts and valves. Participants will learn to recognise abnormalities in cardiac outflow tracts, including Tetralogy of Fallot, Transposition of the Great Arteries, Double Outlet Right Ventricle, and Truncus Arteriosus. The course will also cover critical conditions such as pulmonary and aortic valve stenosis or atresia, aortic arch anomalies, aortic coarctation, and anomalous pulmonary venous return. Emphasis will be placed on accurate ultrasound diagnosis, the implications of these findings, and the prenatal and postnatal management strategies to optimise outcomes.

Key questions
- What are the sonographic views of the heart other than the 4-chamber heart view and how are they obtained in the mid-trimester?
- What are the common outflow tract abnormalities which can be diagnosed in the mid-trimester?
- What are the sonographic diagnostic signs of outflow tract abnormalities that can be diagnosed in the mid-trimester?
