Why do this course?

Detecting fetal heart and cardiac anomalies in the four-chamber (4ch) view during the second trimester is crucial due to the critical window it provides for early diagnosis and intervention. By this stage of gestation, the heart is sufficiently developed to allow for detailed visualization of its structures, enabling the identification of anomalies such as septal defects, hypoplastic heart syndromes, and other congenital abnormalities. Early detection during the second trimester allows for better pregnancy management, informed decision-making, and planning for potential interventions either prenatally or immediately postnatally. This proactive approach can significantly improve outcomes by preparing healthcare teams for specialized care at birth, thereby enhancing the chances of survival and quality of life for affected infants.

Course description

This course offers a detailed review of the systematic approach to ultrasound evaluation of the fetal heart. Participants will gain expertise in conducting meticulous examinations, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in assessments. The course also provides a comprehensive overview of the sonographic appearance of the most common cardiac anomalies detectable in the four-chamber (4ch) view. These include Ventricular Septal Defect, Atrioventricular Septal Defect, Atrial Septal Defect, Single Ventricle, Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome, Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, Ebstein Anomaly, and Rhabdomyoma. By the end of the course, attendees will be equipped to identify potential cardiac issues early, facilitating timely interventions and improving outcomes for fetal health.
