ISUOG offers universities and training institutions the opportunity to run an ISUOG Basic Training program. This is a flexible approach to accessing high quality education and the program can be delivered by your own faculty in your own time.
Any individual member of ISUOG who is a faculty member of a university department or similar training setting in ultrasound in ob/gyn may request to Run an ISUOG Basic Training course. This is the face-to-face version of the Basic Training Online Programme (available on the ISUOG Academy), and is intended for use in live lecture settings.
This initiative provides a flexible and cost-efficient way to access ISUOG Basic Training, and promotes our mission to ensure all women receive a high standard of gynecological and obstetric care.
We ask organisers interested to run our course to read the information on this page very carefully before starting the process of application. Please note:
- An application must be made a minimum of 6 months prior to the proposed course start date
- The application is sent to the Basic Training Sub-Committee for review and their approval is required. ISUOG may need to meet with organisers before the approval is given.
- Organisers can expect an official response within 2 months of receipt of the application. If you have not received a reply within 2 months then you are encouraged to email [email protected]. Please note that we will only reply to emails if an application has already been made.
- We can only respond to completed applications that fit within the timescales above, and follow the requirements as listed below.
Please fill out this application form to send your request.
Who will organise the course?
- The responsibility to deliver the course is that of the University or Institution
- ISUOG is responsible for providing the lecture slides, managing the certification process (see Certification below), and will offer administrative support where necessary, to ensure the highest quality and educational value to ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology.
- Please note that ISUOG is not able to promote or market Basic Training events on behalf of organisers.
Requirements to run a course
- The applicant/organiser must be an ISUOG member and membership must be active at the time of the course.
- ISUOG requires all organisers to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This sets out the terms of the arrangement between the organiser and ISUOG, and is requirement before any materials are shared.
- The applicant and organiser agree pre- and post-course assessments/feedback must be delivered to all delegates (supplied by ISUOG). Completion of the post-course assessment is a requirement to receive the 'Certificate of Attendance' (see 'Certification', below).
- Organisers acknowledge that they will be charged the concessionary ISUOG membership fee of £10 per delegate that is not already an ISUOG member. It is the organiser's responsibility to check whether delegates hold valid ISUOG membership, or have held ISUOG membership in the past (that has since lapsed), as the concessionary rate is only offered to any individual once, as a first-time introduction to ISUOG (see 'Course Fees', below).
- Organisers confirm that they will provide ISUOG with delegate contact details, obtaining whatever consent is required, so that after the event ISUOG may process membership registration, as described above. ISUOG may also contact delegates before and after the course for the purpose of evaluation, assessment and certification, supported and facilitated by the course leader where necessary. ISUOG confirms all communications will be data protection compliant in accordance with GDPR (for more information please refer to our privacy policy).
- The organiser agrees to deliver the ISUOG Basic Training lectures and training without changing the content or the branding of the material provided.
- The organiser agrees that ISUOG must authorise any advertising that the organiser chooses to use to promote the course. Any internal certification which the organiser wishes to provide their delegates with must also be shared with and approved by ISUOG.
- Note that ISUOG allows organisers to run the course using their own faculty. ISUOG is happy to recommend ISUOG faculty if this is additional support is required by the organiser, at their own cost.
Course formats
- This is the face-to-face version of the ISUOG Basic Training Online Programme, and comprises the same 30 theoretical lectures developed by ISUOG experts. Organsiers will be provided with lecture slides, with the intention that these are used in live lecture settings.
- Organisers will be asked to provide a schedule detailing the days and times they will deliver the full 30 lectures (see lecture list here), the names and positions of all speakers/lecturers involved. This schedule must include suitably sized breaks for delegates. A typical format is to spread the 30 lectures over 3 consecutive days, but other formats will be considered.
Certification
- Organisers are asked to provide all attendees with a link to pre and post course assessment/feedback. Upon completion of the post course feedback, delegates will automatically be sent a Certificate of Attendance.
- ISUOG no longer provide a Certificate of Completion to delegates. Should delegates wish to test their theoretical knowledge and receive feedback, organisers should encourage delegates to enrol onto the Basic Training Online Programme, where they can proceed straight to the end-of-course assessment. Successful completion (70% or more) of this assessment leads to the award of the ISUOG Basic Training (Theoretical) Certificate of Achievement, together with 30 CME credits. Please see here for more information and pricing.
Course fees
- ISUOG provides the Basic Training curriculum and lecture slides to institutions at no cost, however, organisers must consider that this is so provided in order that ISUOG promote its mission to ensure that all women receive a high standard of gynecological and obstetric care.
- Organisers must provide ISUOG with the details required to register all delegates for ISUOG membership, unless they currently hold (or have held in the past) ISUOG membership. It is the organiser's responsibility to ensure the accuracy of this list.
- Organisers must be aware of the ISUOG membership fees (see below) and consider this in any pricing for their Basic Training event.
- Although it is not a requirement, it is recommended that all organisers consider mandatory enrolment onto the Online Programme for their delegates, as it provides 12-months access to up-to-date materials, images, videos, assessment and Certification; this should be viewed in the same way as purchasing a textbook after attending lecture that has been enjoyed. For more information and pricing, please see here.
- If organisers would like to include access to the Basic Training Online Programme then they must factor this into the pricing of their Basic Training event. If it this is desired, then we request that organisers discuss this with us at the start of this application process. Note that enrolment onto the Online Programme cannot take place until after the organiser's event has finished, once membership fees have been paid for and our internal process for registration has been completed.
Membership fees explained:
- We recommend that prior to running a course, institutions enter an official partnership prior to the course so that ISUOG can offer all residents a 2-year free membership via ISUOG’s Trainee Program, including access to ISUOG's journal Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
- If no partnership exists, organisers will supply ISUOG with a list of delegates, that will specify members and non-members. Organisers will be charged a nominal fee of £10 for ISUOG Basic membership. This concessionary rate is only available to individuals who have not obtained ISUOG membership before.
- ISUOG reserves the right to review these fees from time to time and make adjustments where necessary. Organiser fees will be agreed in the MoU with ISUOG and fixed for that course once agreed.
Language
- Lecture slides are provided as standard in English, as are the pre and post course assessments/feedback.
- If you are interested in delivering the material in another language, please email [email protected] and our colleagues will discuss this with you.
General timelines and requirements
- Application is submitted at least 6 months before desired course start date.
- Response received from ISUOG within 2 months.
- Meeting between organisers and the ISUOG Basic Training Sub-committee is arranged, if required.
- Organisers provide ISUOG with a schedule for their Basic Training event, days and times, and details of speakers/lecturers. Organsiers also specify if they would like ISUOG to consider an alternative language of delivery, and whether they would like to include purchase of the Basic Training Online Programme as part of their event offering to delegates.
- Organisers are asked to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ISUOG.
- Organisers provide ISUOG with any marketing information that they intend on using to promote their event, for prior approval.
- Lecture slides (in English), pre and post course assessment/feedback forms are shared within 1 month of the course start date.
- Organiser runs their Basic Training event over a number of days; at the end of the course, the organiser sends all delegates a link to the post course evaluation so that delegates can obtain a Certificate of Attendance.
- Organiser sends ISUOG details of delegates in order to process membership registration. This can take between 4 - 8 weeks depending on accuracy of information provided by the organiser.
