Why do this course?

To support your day to day work, this course will bring you up to date with recent developments in individualised risk assessment, recommendations for prevention, adequate triage in patients with suspected disease, as well as treatment, timing of delivery, postpartum monitoring and treatment will be discussed, providing readily applicable clinically useful information to health care professionals who look after pregnant individuals.

This course will provide a comprehensive overview of the most recent research developments and clinical aspects of early prediction and prevention of pre-eclampsia, individualised antenatal care, triage of women with suspected pre-eclampsia, appropriate resource allocation, prediction of adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes and timing of delivery in women diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, as well as monitoring and treatment in the postpartum period to minimise long-term complications.

Learning objectives

  • Understand the different options for preeclampsia risk stratification and the advantages and disadvantages of multi marker screening compared to the use of maternal characteristics alone.
  • Recognise important aspects of preeclampsia prophylaxis, including target population, dose and timing of aspirin use.
  • Appreciate the differences between the most commonly used sets of diagnostic criteria, and the role of biomarkers in outcome prediction and triage to facilitate resource allocation.
  • Gain insights on the role of maternal haemodynamic characteristics on pathophysiology and their possible use in triage, diagnosis and treatment selection.
