Program

This program for this course has been meticulously curated by A/Prof. Simone Ferrero.

This blended learning course consists of a live streamed course on the 30th June, which is 7.5 hours of interactive learning and discussion from an expert panel of speakers, covering adnexal masses, and the use of ultrasound in endometrial cancer, ovarian tumour assessment, uterine sarcomas, gestational trophoblastic disease, and vulvar and vaginal cancer. You will be able to access this course on-demand content through the live course portal until Friday 30th August.

The 5 hour online self-study course concentrates on common ultrasound features specific to cervical cancer. By the end of this course, you will be well-equipped to utilize ultrasound effectively in the early detection, accurate staging, and optimal management of cervical cancer patients. It contains key speaker lectures, articles, knowledge checking and a certificate and CME credits. Once enrolled you will have access to this online course on the ISUOG Academy My Learning area until Friday 30th August.

Trainees/residents and sonographers/radiographers

Proof of status: All trainees, residents, sonographers and radiographers will need to submit proof of their trainee, resident, sonographer or radiographer status by way of a letter from their Department or Institution. The letter must be in English and dated within the last 3 months. The document can be uploaded at the time of registering or sent by email to [email protected].

Sonographer definition: A sonographer is a non-physician medical imaging professional who performs diagnostic medical sonography, or diagnostic ultrasound.

Trainee/resident definition: A trainee is a medical professional who is not yet fully qualified or practicing without supervision within their chosen specialty and in accordance with the relevant national regulatory authorities; a resident is in residency training which leads to specially or subspecialty) certification.

Prof. Simone Ferrero is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Genova. He graduated from the University of Genova in Northern Italy and obtained his Ph.D. in the Queen Mary University of London in the United Kingdom with a thesis entitled “Protein and cellular studies on the peritoneal fluid of women with endometriosis”. Prof. Simone Ferrero has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles and edited several international books on endometriosis, uterine fibroids and endometrial cancer.

The main areas of his research are endometriosis and uterine fibroids. Prof. Simone Ferrero has extensive experience in the ultrasonographic diagnosis of gynecological conditions, in the hormonal and the laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis and fibroids.

Dr Jessica Preisler Romanow (Chile) ISUOG Trustee, ISUOG Ambassador to Latin America

Dr Jessica Preisler is Obstetrician and Gynecologist at Clínica Alemana Santiago and Hospital Clínico University de Chile, Chile as well as 2012 Clinical Research Fellow in early pregnancy and acute gynecology Imperial College London, and recently part of the ISUOG Next Generation Group. During her fellowship, she worked on research projects about Ultrasound diagnosis of miscarriage and IOTA studies. In 2013, she relocated back to Chile where she has focused her work on the Gynecological Ultrasound Unit where she also teaches OBGYN residents. In the non-clinical area, she has been the IOTA Ambassador for South America since 2017, a role that has taken her to multiple countries within the Continent where she ran IOTA training courses. She is also a member of the Chilean Ultrasound Society where she actively organises courses, lectures and teaching sessions. In January 2021, she became part of the Board of the Chilean Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (SOCHUMB). Her special interest includes education in gynecological ultrasound and early pregnancy and gynecological ultrasound training and research. During 2020, Dr Preisler was part of the Next Generation Group and collaborated with ISUOG promoting COVID webinars in Spanish. She also translated ISUOG COVID guidelines in gynecology and early pregnancy.

Dr Mala Sibal (India) Scientific Committee member

ISUOG International Faculty Member

Dr Mala Sibal is presently a consultant physician at the department of Fetal Medicine and Obstetric and Gynecological Ultrasound, Manipal Hospital, Bangalore. She is also the course director and faculty member of the Gynecological Ultrasound online learning portal ‘’Gynecology Academy’’ (www.gynac.org).

She is the author of the book “Ultrasound in Gynecology: An Atlas and Guide” published by Springer in February 2017.

She is authorised by the IOTA steering committee to conduct IOTA certification programs both nationally and internationally. She is especially interested in Gynecological Ultrasound and has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international conferences on this subject.

She has authored peer-reviewed journal articles on novel diagnostic ultrasound techniques in the American Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine. She is also a principal investigator in the ongoing International Ovarian Tumor Analysis (IOTA 5 & 7) International Research Program.

Prof. Thierry Van den Bosch (Belgium) Scientific Committee Vice Chair

Prof. Thierry Van den Bosch defended his PhD in 2007 on the diagnosis of endometrial disease. His clinical research focuses on the diagnosis of endometrial and myometrial pathology, endometriosis and fertility exploration. He has published over 150 papers and has been over 100 times invited speaker at international conferences in English, Dutch and French.

He completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the KU Leuven (Belgium) and at the University of Pretoria (South Africa). In 1992 he was appointed consultant at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Unit of Gynecologic Oncology, of the University of Stellenbosch and Tygerberg Hospital (South-Africa). In 1994 he moved back to Belgium. He worked as gynecologist at the Regional Hospital RZ Tienen, consultant UZ Leuven and KU Leuven and became the Head of department in RZ Tienen.

He currently works at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University Hospital UZ Leuven, at the Faculty of Medicine, KU Leuven, and is Senior Clinical Investigator of the Scientific Research Fund (FWO) Flanders, Belgium.

Prof. Wouter Froyman (Belgium)

Wouter Froyman graduated as a Medical Doctor at KU Leuven in 2011. He finished his specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2018 and has since then worked as a consultant in this department at the University Hospitals Leuven.

His main clinical activities and research are related to gynecological ultrasound and treatment of benign gynecological pathology, with special interest in minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgery.

In 2019, he obtained his PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences, with a doctoral thesis entitled "Progress in differentiation and clinical management of adnexal masses". In 2020, he was appointed associate professor at KU Leuven. He is also a steering committee member of the International Ovarian Tumor Analysis (IOTA) studies.

Dr Antonia Carla Testa studied medicine at the Catholic University in Rome. She did her residency in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the same university and specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She obtained a Doctorate in fetal and pediatric cardiological sciences.

Since 1998 she worked in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Catholic University in Rome. In 2004 she became an Assistant Professor in the same University. Since 1989 she has been involved in ultrasound research, at first in the use of Doppler velocimetry in pregnancy and then in the study of ovarian masses and oncological pathologies. At present she is in charge of the gyne-oncological ultrasound service at the Catholic University in Rome.

Head of the External Female Organ Surgery Unit at Gemelli University Hospital and associate professor at the Catholic University in Rome.

Giorgia Garganese is head of the External Female Organ Surgery Unit at Gemelli University Hospital and associate professor at the Catholic University in Rome.

She is one of the leading European experts in the management of vulvar cancer and her clinical interests include a wide range of minimally invasive and “multimodality guided” surgical procedures applied to gynaecological and breast cancers, with a strong commitment to oncoplastic surgical techniques. She is also an expert in ultrasound-guided diagnostic/invasive procedures and fusion ultrasound imaging.

She is involved in several international collaborations and research projects on the development of new technologies for the diagnosis and surgical treatment of female cancers and on the bio-molecular characterisation of prognostic markers and therapeutic targets in rare gynaecological cancers.
