The ISUOG World Congress and the environmentÂ
-
Reducing printed materials: We are reducing the amount of printed items we distribute at the Congress year on year, to avoid waste. We provide a Congress app, digital materials and a digital poster portal instead. We will also use recycled or recyclable materials where we can
-
Choosing our menus thoughtfully: Catering options will be locally sourced where possible. This year, we will also trial a fully vegetarian day
-
Minimising food waste and re-distributing leftovers: We always order our catering very carefully to avoid food waste. This year we are pleased to say that in addition, the venue has a permanent contract with a local charity that receives and distributes any leftover food to vulnerable communities, to reduce food waste
-
Minimising use of temporary materials: Since 2022, we have only used temporary carpeting where essential in our event space, to avoid waste. We will also try to use recycled or recyclable carpet where we have to have carpet. Signage will be digital or cardboard, rather than plastic, where possible
- Choosing materials carefully: Lanyards will be made from recycled plastic, bags will be made from fairtrade recycled cotton and notebooks from bamboo/cork
-
Encouraging use of public transport: We encourage delegates to use public transport where possible. This year, the Budapest Convention Bureau have kindly arranged a limited number of complimentary public transport tickets, which will be available to reserve during registration on a first come, first serve basis
-
Encouraging our industry partners, Congress venue and suppliers to do the same: We ask our industry partners to take the same measures as us at a minimum. We also include sustainability measures in our Requests for Proposals from event venues and suppliers
-
Drinking water: There will be water fountains onsite. Please bring a re-usable water bottle to the Congress to reduce single-use plastic cups or bottles
-
Re-usable items: Please make sure you re-use or recycle any Congress materials that you keep, such as lanyards or bags. Please return your lanyard at the end of the Congress, if you don’t need it
-
Waste: While onsite for the ISUOG Congress please dispose of your waste considerately and recycle where possible
-
Travel: We encourage any delegates who can, to travel by rail instead of air when visiting Budapest for the Congress, and to use public transport to get around the city, where possible
