This year’s World Health Day theme ‘Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures’ urges governments world-wide to ramp up efforts to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths, and to prioritise women’s longer-term health.

ISUOG is delighted that this is the theme of World Health Day 2025 as it will kickstart a year-long campaign centred around maternal and newborn health. The campaign, led by the World Health Organization organically aligns with ISUOG’s ethos and outreach goals.

The campaign goals are to:

  • Raise awareness about gaps in maternal and newborn survival and the need to prioritise women’s longer-term well-being.
  • Advocate for effective investments that improve the health of women and babies.
  • Encourage collective action to support parents as well as health professionals who provide critical care.
  • Provide useful health information relating to pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period.

In line with the second campaign goal, ISUOG conducts regular outreach trips throughout the year, working to invest in education in lower-resourced communities around the world, to enable women to get the essential ultrasound care that they need. The next trip will take place this weekend in Egypt, keep your eyes peeled for updates! Find out more about ISUOG outreach.

VISUOG, our online encyclopaedia, provides accessible information on a range of areas within the field of obstetrics and gynecology, including patient resources. Every month we open one free chapter and this month, in line with the theme of World Health Day, the VISUOG open chapter is on placenta accreta. This is as PAS disorders carry a high risk of severe postpartum hemorrhage, which can be mitigated by prenatal diagnosis by ultrasound. Share these resources with your network of colleagues and patients as they will be free-to-access throughout April.
