We are delighted at the success of Ultrasound Essentials 2025, recently presented online from 7-8 February, in collaboration with the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF). This inspiring and unique educational course reached over 8,600 professionals in lower-resource countries across the world.

The free livestreamed event was attended by specialists and trainees from over 100 countries world-wide. Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Ukraine, Peru, Pakistan, Egypt, Colombia, Vietnam and Kenya were the top ten countries represented.

Dr Mark Sklansky, Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA, who spoke during the obstetrics program on day two, said: “Such a pleasure and honour to join for this meeting. Congratulations on putting on such a fantastic meeting for thousands of people around the globe”.

Dr Theodora Pepera, one of the session chairs on day one, gynecology and early-pregnancy, emphasised the impact of Ultrasound Essentials for practitioners in Ghana: “I really appreciate the vast expertise made available for this excellent course. It is no doubt making sonography safer in many countries.

“Misdiagnoses costs lives, and the interruption of healthy pregnancies, so teaching the basics, which in my experience in Ghana and Malawi, needs significant improvement, is so important.

“I try and listen in to both days every year. There’s always something to learn! Ultrasound Essentials has become a highlight of the sonographers’ calendar in Ghana.”

Most importantly, we were pleased to see the wealth of positive feedback from delegates across the world. Here is what some of them had to say:

“I was truly honored to attend the Ultrasound Essentials two-day course. I had the pleasure of meeting so many pioneers in the field and asking them questions. Ultrasound Essentials motivated me to stay updated and to follow the international guidelines in delivering optimal care to our patients. I'm grateful to every single person who has contributed to this amazing two-day session. Looking forward to seeing them all again.”

"It's really inspiring. Kudos to all of you involved. Thanks so much."

"I have streamed in between patients today. It's been very educational and I've learnt a lot."

"I am taking good advantage of this rare opportunity. This is so useful."

“In South Africa - we live in two worlds. The world of the insured - which is well resourced and the world of the state - which is poorly resourced. I work in a poorly resourced rural area where I am the only FMF certified doctor in a 300km radius. I am self-taught by the FMF and ISUOG - and to me your program is God-sent. If there was no FMF and ISUOG, the community I serve would go without.”

If you are located in a lower-resource country, including South Africa, you can still register for free, for full access to the recordings of this two-day event. The program covers gynecology and early pregnancy, and obstetrics.  Recordings will be available on-demand for all registered delegates for six months after the course on the live streaming website.

ISUOG is grateful for the support of GE HealthCare, the sole sponsor of Ultrasound Essentials 2025.
